About The Company
Litigation-Tech was formed in the San Francisco Bay Area by Ted Brooks, as an answer to an ever-increasing need for cutting-edge trial support by firms of all sizes. Having several years' experience as a Litigation Support professional in one of the country's top technology law firms, along with a wealth of qualifications in technology and graphic arts, Ted brings a unique perspective to your team, not normally found in vendors. His blend of training and experience in technology, psychology, graphic arts, and the legal field enables your team to have a decided advantage when you prepare and present your case. He strives to remain an objective observer (although partial to the outcome), and in most cases is consulted as a "shadow juror." This offers you yet another "playing field" view.

Providing the technology-to-legal bridge needed to integrate seamlessly with your trial team and support staff, identifying the need and assimilating as needed, L-T has the in-house perspective you need, and in fact, prefers to work as part of your team, rather than as a traditional "outside" vendor. We have experience in many trials across the nation, and are used to dealing with 14 or 20-hour workdays and nearly impossible deadlines. During a larger trial, or as needed, we are there with you every working hour (and often, many more). This means no midnight answering machine panic-calls, hoping your message is received in time for tomorrow's proceedings.

Ted Brooks, Founder and CEO

A native Californian, Ted was born in Los Angeles, and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He served in the US Navy, and earned a degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, and later, in Ministry, with studies in Psychology. This was followed by numerous courses and classes in computer technologies, graphics, applications, and legal subjects. While employed by companies including Caltrans and Waste Management, he was involved with the development and deployment of several state-of-the-art electro-mechanical and hydraulic devices.

All of this was feeding the family as he pursued his techno-evolutionary hobbies and education, each of which he developed into successful small businesses- starting with photography, shooting fashion and weddings. Then, as the PC platform developed into the early Windows interfaces, he caught the bug- quickly mastering photographic digital enhancement, scanning, and computer graphics.

As a result of having published a well-designed newsletter publication, Ted was asked if he would design a corporate website, and so he went into web design and development- yes, in the "early days," with his first major client a branch of Waste Management Corp. With a great deal of training and working experience, this grew into a small web-design and development company.

Then, finally choosing to abandon the structured life of gainful employment, he decided to jump on board with an early internet-based startup company opportunity. Here, Ted held the positions of CIO and Marketing Director, combining his experience and talents to develop a successful print and web marketing campaign, as well as setting up and maintaining the network infrastructure for the company. He also wrote client business plans and an automated loan processing software program. Without going into all of the boring details, let's just say we all know what has happened to most "dot-com" startups.

A short time after that, Ted joined one of the country's top technology law firms, Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison, in the Litigation Support department, later gaining Paralegal status in the Litigation Group. There, in addition to gaining a great deal of legal experience and training, his thirst for technology was encouraged. A "troubleshooter" by nature (critical in the Litigation Support and emerging technologies arena), he quickly rose to a level of high regard within the firm, that of Firmwide Litigation Consultant. He has designed an in-house litigation support software solution (SuperDox), developed and taught several MCLE courses, written articles, researched and recommended several litigation support applications, developed client-winning PowerPoint presentations, worked on and supervised various projects, and been part of the trial teams of several of the highest-profile cases in recent history.

After several trial-packed years with the firm, Ted decided to go the route of the contractor/vendor. Once again he started his own company (Litigation-Tech), based on his years of experience in service-oriented business with a primary focus on Trial and Litigation Support. Ted's experience in an in-house capacity has afforded him a perspective that is rare in the profession. Most vendors have not felt the law firm "trial-team" camaraderie, or the "25-hour" days (not to mention the fine war room cuisine).

In addition to a richly diverse technology, legal, and business background, one should consider his reputation and track record. Ted is one of a very few hand-selected Trial Technology Consultants on the inData (TrialDirector) referral list, and is even mentioned on their web site for one of his recent victories. He is to be featured and quoted in an upcoming article on Courtroom Technology in the Daily Journal. He is approaching his second billion in case winnings and settlements. He knows how to handle the pressure of the largest (and the smallest) cases, and has served on both plaintiff and defense teams; with multiple co-counsel and in-house counsel. He has extensive experience in many types of litigation, including IP, Securities, Insurance, Contracts, and Complex Litigation, in many locations across the country.

Finally, no matter who you might retain for your next trial, remember- unless you (and your consultant) are using the very latest in technology, coupled with solid trial experience and a proven track-record, you might be risking your entire case, and offering your client less than they are paying for. To quote one of the top litigators in the country, "To do anything less is to risk malpractice…"

Vendor Partners
L-T believes in maximizing the result of our combined efforts, while minimizing the cost to your client. In addition to our own scalable staff, we will bring in vendor partners when the project demands it. Why would you not simply find your own vendor? The answer is simple- it's all about efficiency. L-T has a large nationwide network of partner vendors, pre-qualified and ready to go. We also keep the "big picture" in view, managing all vendor work-product for you, preventing many of those last-minute emergencies from ever arising due to improper techniques, substandard workmanship, etc. And, your cost is the same as if you engaged additional vendors yourself- saving your client money, avoiding over-spending on certain projects.
